Adventistische Schriften über: "How many hours before bedtime should one stop eating?"
Answer
According to the writings of Ellen G. White, digestion should be completely finished at bedtime so that the stomach, as well as the rest of the body, can rest. If a third meal is taken, it should be very light and consumed several hours before going to bed. A gap of at least five to six hours between meals is recommended to allow the stomach the necessary rest.
Rest for the stomach during the night
The stomach should, when we go to rest, have completed all its work so that it, like other parts of the body, can enjoy rest. The work of digestion should not continue during the hours of sleep.
Timing of the evening meal
If a third meal is taken at all, it should be light and occur several hours before bedtime.
Consequences of eating before bedtime
Many complain in vain of fatigue to the poor, tired stomach. More food is forced upon it, which reactivates the digestive organs to perform the same cycle of work during the sleeping hours. The sleep of such persons is usually disturbed by unpleasant dreams, and they awaken in the morning feeling unrested.
Necessary intervals between meals
After the regular meal has been taken, the stomach should be given a rest period of five hours. No particle of food should be given to the stomach until the next meal.
- Regularity in eating
- Digestion and sleep
- Interval between meals
