Adventistische Schriften über: "How is the promise in Hosea 6:2 to be understood that He will make us alive after two days and raise us up on the third day?"
Answer
The promise in Hosea 6:2 is often interpreted in Miller's Adventist writings according to the principle “one day for a thousand years.” Accordingly, the two days represent a period of 2,000 years during which God's people endure tribulation, while the third day signifies the subsequent millennium of glory and the resurrection of the righteous. This chronology is often linked to the covenant between the Jews and the Roman Empire (circa 158 B.C.) to determine the timing of Christ's second coming.
The Two Days of Tribulation and the Third Day of Resurrection
»“After two days” – which means two thousand years – the tribulation under the Roman Empire “He will make us alive”; – meaning that God will raise His children from the dead at the glorious appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ with all His saints. “On the third day He will raise us up, and we will live before His face”; – which signifies the first resurrection, or the resurrection of the righteous, when all who are His will emerge and reign with Him – “live before His face” – a thousand years – “third day” – before the resurrection of the unrighteous.«
Hosea's Prophecy and the Millennial Kingdom
»This prophecy refers to the two days of the Roman Empire in its imperial, royal, and papal form, which with its great iron teeth tears and persecutes God's people; the third day is the same as in Revelation 20:6: “Blessed and holy is the one who shares in the first resurrection… they will be priests of God and Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.” When God's people will live before His face, “live and reign with Him for a thousand years.” If the third day is a thousand years, then the two days are of equal length.«
The Meaning of “Revive” and “Resurrect”
»Fourth: The resurrection: “After two days He will make us alive; on the third day He will raise us up, and we will live before His face.” This can mean nothing less than the resurrection. The word “make alive” (revived) is used in the same sense in Romans 14:9; “and He will raise up” is used many times in the Word of God in reference to the resurrection, as in John 6:40: “And I will raise Him up on the last day.”«
Jewish Chronology and Hosea 6:2
»In Hosea 6:2 we read: “After two days He will make us alive; on the third day He will raise us up, and we will live before His face.” If “after eight days” were to mean exactly seven days, then “after two days” would have to mean exactly one day, and the prophet would have had to say: “Tomorrow He will raise us up.” But the prophet clearly said exactly what he meant, namely that after two days the third day follows. This is both the Jewish and the reasonable way of reckoning time.«
