Let the effort rest more on the abdominal muscles than on those of the throat.
The stomach, liver, lungs, and brain suffer from the lack of deep, full breaths that would electrify the blood and give it a bright, lively color, and that alone can keep it pure and give each part of the living machinery tension and strength.
The lungs should be given the greatest possible freedom. Their capacity develops through free action; it diminishes when they are constricted and compressed. Hence the harmful effects of the widespread practice... of bending over at work. In this position it is impossible to breathe deeply. Shallow breathing soon becomes a habit, and the lungs lose their power to expand.
Pure, fresh air... refreshes the body and tends to make it strong and healthy, while its influence is also clearly felt on the mind, granting a certain degree of calmness and cheerfulness. It stimulates appetite, makes the digestion of food more complete, and produces a deep and sweet sleep.
