Adventistische Schriften über: "Relevant searches Daniel 8 the Daily meaning Abomination of Desolation interpretation Hebrew Tamid and Shikuz Daniel sacrifice"

Answer

The Hebrew word *Tamid*, which is translated as "daily" in Daniel 8, literally means "constant", "continuous" or "everlasting". In the Adventist interpretation it is emphasized that the word "sacrifice" does not appear in the original text, but was added by translators, often leading to a misinterpretation as a Jewish temple service. Instead, the "daily" is understood as a desolating power (paganism) which later was replaced by the "abomination of desolation" (the papacy).

Meaning of Tamid and the role of paganism

The word tamid itself means "ongoing or constant", "steady", "stable", "secure", "persistent", "eternal". Only such words convey the idea of the original word, which in the present text is translated as "daily". [...] the word "sacrifice" has been added in every case. And it is completely added, because in the original there is no word at that place at all.

Two desolating powers: paganism and the papacy

By the "continuance of desolation" or the eternal desolation we must understand paganism, which is meant throughout its long history... The "transgression of desolation" refers to the papacy. This latter power is described with a stronger expression than paganism.

Refutation of the reference to Jewish sacrifices

It is therefore a kind of deception to present this word in any of these passages as if it referred at all to Jewish sacrifices, because the Hebrew original contains no reference to any kind of sacrifice. If the word "sacrifice", which our translators have inserted in each of these texts, had been "desolation" or "desolator", it would be equally consistent with the Hebrew text and much more in line with the obvious intent of the Holy Spirit.

The change of the desolating powers

This language shows that the "daily" is a daily or continual abomination or a desolating power that should desolate the people and the church of God until it is "taken away", and that then another abomination should take its place, one that is even more desolating.

Prophetic periods and the daily

If the Jewish sacrifices had been meant, they would have ceased in 70 AD when the temple was destroyed. One thousand two hundred ninety years later would end in 1360 AD... But the papacy was in its prime in 1360 AD... Therefore it could not mean the Jewish sacrifices that were taken away by pagan Rome.
