After his Ascension, Christ was set upon the throne in heaven amid the worship of the angels as priest and king. This solemn inauguration and glorification at the right hand of God was the signal for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Thus the heavens confirmed that the Redeemer had received all authority over heaven and earth.
The Inauguration and Glorification of Christ
Christ’s Ascension was the signal that his followers should receive the promised blessing. When Christ entered through the heavenly gates, he was raised to the throne under the worship of the angels. Once this ceremony was completed, the Holy Spirit poured down in abundant streams upon the disciples, and Christ was truly glorified with the glory he had from eternity with the Father. The Pentecostal outpouring was the heavenly announcement that the inauguration of the Redeemer was accomplished. He had sent the Holy Spirit as a sign that he, as priest and king, had received all power in heaven and on earth.
Confirmation through the Outpouring of the Spirit
Faithful to his promise, the Divine One, who had been exalted in the heavenly courts, shared his fullness with his followers on earth. His ascension to the right hand of God was signaled by the outpouring of the Spirit upon his disciples.
The Triumphal Entry into the Holy City
As they ascended toward the holy city, the angels accompanying Jesus cried: “Lift up your heads, O gates, and be lifted up, O eternal doors, that the King of glory may enter!” [...] Then the entire heavenly host surrounded the Son of God, their majestic commander, and bowed in deepest worship, casting their glittering crowns at his feet.
Acceptance of the Sacrifice before the Ascension to the Throne
When the great sacrifice was completed, Christ ascended into the heights and declined the worship of the angels until he presented the request: “I desire that those you have given me also be with me where I am.” Then, with unspeakable love and power, the answer came from the Father’s throne: “All the angels of God shall worship Him.” His humiliation was brought to an end, his sacrifice completed, and he was given a name that is above all names.
