Adventistische Schriften über: "Theological Commentary on Isaiah 6"

Answer

Ellen White interprets Isaiah 6 as a central revelation of God's holiness, which plunges the prophet into deep self-abasement ("Woe is me! For I am lost!"). Through the vision of the heavenly sanctuary, Isaiah recognizes the contrast between God's purity and the sinfulness of his people—and his own. The touch with the glowing coal from the altar symbolizes the atoning cleansing that equips one for service. White applies this experience to the end times: God's people are to behold Christ's heavenly ministry by faith, confess their own unworthiness, and be equipped through divine grace for missionary deployment ("Here am I; send me").

Isaiah's Vision of God's Holiness and His Reaction

»Never before had Isaiah so fully comprehended the greatness of Jehovah and His perfect holiness; and he felt that in his human frailty and unworthiness he must perish in this divine presence. "Woe is me!" he cried; "for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts.«

Cleansing by the Coal from the Altar and Commissioning

»A seraph came to him to fit him for his great commission. A live coal from the altar was laid upon his lips with the words: "Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged." And when the voice of God was heard saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Isaiah answered with holy confidence: "Here am I; send me.«

The Vision as a Pattern for God's People in the Last Days

»The vision given to Isaiah represents the condition of God's people in the last days. They are privileged to see by faith the work that is going forward in the heavenly sanctuary. … When they look by faith into the Most Holy Place and see the work of Christ in the heavenly sanctuary, they realize that they are a people of unclean lips—a people whose lips have often spoken vanity, and whose talents have not been sanctified and employed to the glory of God. … But if they, like Isaiah, receive the impression the Lord desires to make upon the heart, if they humble their souls before God, there is hope for them.«

The Effect of Divine Glory on Humanity

»When Isaiah beheld the glory of God, his soul was bowed in the dust. Because of the unclouded vision which he was graciously permitted to behold, he was filled with self-abasement. This will always be the effect upon the human mind when the beams of the Sun of Righteousness shine gloriously upon the soul. The light of the glory of God will reveal all hidden evil and bring the soul to the place of humble repentance.«

The Experience as a Prerequisite for Effective Service

»I call the attention of all our workers to the sixth chapter of Isaiah. Read the experience of God's prophet when he "saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up … Then said I, Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips … Then flew one of the seraphims unto me … and he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged. Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me." This is the experience that is needed by those who work in all our institutions.«

Background: Isaiah's Hesitation Before the Vision

»As he realized his own inability to meet the situation and thought of the stubbornness and unbelief of the people for whom he was to labor, his task seemed hopeless. Should he in despair relinquish his mission and leave Judah undisturbed in their idolatry? Such thoughts pressed upon Isaiah as he stood under the portico of the temple. Suddenly the gate and the inner veil of the temple seemed to be uplifted or withdrawn, and he was permitted to gaze into the Holy of Holies.«
