Adventistische Schriften über: "Is cooking on the Sabbath allowed? I'm just asking."

Answer

Cooking on the Sabbath is considered a violation of the commandment; Seventh-day Adventists are taught to prepare food on the sixth day (Friday) and to refrain from any cooking on the day of rest. Cooking for the sick or those in need is permitted as care, but in general the Sabbath should not be spent on cooking or general labor. Writings of early church writers assert that the Sabbath was designated for spiritual fellowship and simple eating, not for work such as cooking.

Food should be prepared on the sixth day, not on the Sabbath

»And the children of Israel were commanded to prepare food on the sixth day, and bake that which they will bake, and seethe that which they will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning; and that which remaineth over until the morning ye shall burn. Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there shall be none. And it came to pass, that some went out on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. And the Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? See, for that the Lord hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. So the people rested on the seventh day. And the children of Israel called the name thereof Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. And the people did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the land of Canaan. And it came to pass, that some left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted. And it came to pass, on the seventh day, that some went out to gather, and they found none. And the Lord said unto Moses, See, for that the Lord hath given you the Sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. So the people rested on the seventh day. And the children of Israel called the name thereof Manna; and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. Do not cook on the Sabbath; prepare on Friday

»On Friday the preparation for the Sabbath is done, and all cooking is finished. It is ensured that all clothing is ready, shoes are mended, and blankets are taken. The Sabbath should not be spent on adjusting clothes, cooking food, seeking pleasure, or any other laborious work. Before the day ends, all laborious work should be set aside, and all worldly vanities put away. Parents should explain the purpose and reason for their work to their children, and allow them to participate in the preparation of the Sabbath according to God's commandments.«

Cooking on the Sabbath in general (such as in restaurants) is forbidden

»Here is my answer, No, no! Keeping the Sabbath is acknowledging God—the sign, or boundary, that separates us from Him and that we are His people. This mark shall never be removed. If the workers in our restaurants give food on the Sabbath as they do on weekdays, for the general majority of people who will come in, where is their rest? What opportunity will they have to regain their physical and spiritual strength? I have not seen special light on this subject for a long time. I have seen attempts made to destroy our Sabbath standard, so that people might open restaurants on the Sabbath; but it should never be done.«
