What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Ellen G. White and the three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6–13: The everlasting gospel, the love of God, hope, the righteousness of Christ, the final warning, the faith of Jesus, and the commandments of love and mercy."

Answer

Ellen G. White connects the three angels’ messages with central themes: the everlasting gospel proclaimed by the first angel; the love and mercy of God revealed in the fulfillment of His purposes; the urgent final warning calling for obedience to God’s commandments and faith in Jesus; the righteousness of Christ as the sole foundation of salvation; and the commandments of love and mercy that unite the law and the gospel.

The Everlasting Gospel and the Mercy of God

»With these believers, as with the first disciples, what seemed obscure to their understanding in the hour of trial would later be made clear to them. When they saw the “end of the Lord,” they would know that His purposes of love toward them had been steadily fulfilled, notwithstanding the trial resulting from their errors. They would learn through a blessed experience that He “is very pitiful, and of tender mercy”; that all His paths “are mercy and truth” to those who keep His covenant and His testimonies. A great religious awakening under the proclamation of Christ’s soon return is foretold in the prophecy of the first angel’s message. An angel is seen flying in the midst of heaven, preaching the everlasting gospel ... “Fear God and give Him glory; for the hour of His judgment has come, and behold Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the fountains of waters.”«

The Final Warning and the Love of Christ

»Should we appear in plain, modest clothing, regardless of fashion; should our tables always be supplied with simple, wholesome food, avoiding all luxuries and waste; should our houses be built with appropriate simplicity and furnished in the same way, this would demonstrate the sanctifying power of the truth and exert an effective influence upon unbelievers. But while we conform to the world in these things, in some cases apparently seeking to surpass worldly people in extravagant furnishings, the preaching of the truth will have little or no effect. ... The third angel is represented as flying swiftly through heaven, crying: “Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” Here the nature of the work of God’s people is shown. They have a message of such importance that they are represented as flying as they present their message to the world. They hold in their hands the bread of life for a hungry world. The love of Christ compels them. This is the last message. There are no more to follow it, no further invitations of mercy after this message has done its work. What a trust! What a responsibility rests upon all to carry the words of the gracious invitation: “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let everyone who hears say, Come. And let everyone who thirsts come. And whoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” Everyone who hears is to say, Come. Not ministers only, but the people also. All are to join in the invitation. Not merely by their profession, but by their character and conduct, they are to exert a winning influence.«

Faith in Jesus and the Righteousness of Christ

»You are to come to God as a repentant sinner, through the name of Jesus, the divine Advocate, to a merciful, forgiving Father, believing that He will do what He has promised. Christ appeals to us concerning God’s willingness to help, making use of a familiar and ordinary occurrence: “What father among you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” It is impossible for a person to save himself. The righteousness of Christ alone can avail for his salvation, and this is the gift of God. This is the wedding garment in which one may appear as a welcome guest at the marriage supper of the Lamb. Let faith lay hold of Christ without delay, and you will be a new creature in Jesus, a light to the world. Christ is called “the Lord our righteousness.” And by faith everyone is to say, “The Lord is my righteousness.” When faith grasps this gift, the praise of God will be on our lips, and we shall be able to say, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”«

The Commandments of Love and Mercy

»The Pharisees were dissatisfied with the teachings of Christ. The practical godliness He commanded condemned them. They wanted Him to focus on the outward requirements of the ceremonial law and the customs and traditions of the fathers. But Jesus taught the spiritual nature of the law and made its far-reaching claims clear. Love for God and for people must dwell in the heart and govern the life, as the source of every thought and action. There is perfect harmony between the law of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ. “I and the Father are one,” says the great Teacher. The gospel is the good news of grace, through which a person can be freed from the condemnation of sin and enabled to render acceptable obedience to the law. The gospel points to the moral code as the rule of life. This law, which demands unceasing obedience, continually points the sinner to the gospel for forgiveness and peace. The great apostle says: “Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid. No, we establish the law.” And he declares again that “the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.” It commands supreme love to God and equal love to our fellow human beings, and is indispensable both to human happiness and to the glory of God.«
