Ellen Gould White über: "Do not eat in the worship space"

Answer

The worship space is a place consecrated to the Lord, which should remain strictly separate from ordinary and secular activities. Since reverence and holy silence characterize the house of God, everyday conversations, business transactions, and improper behavior have no place there. A clear awareness of the presence of God and holy angels requires conduct that is distinctly different from the use of ordinary spaces.

Preserving the holiness of the house of God

The God‑consecrated place should not be a space where secular business is conducted. ... The upbringing and education of youth should be of a character that elevates holy things and promotes pure devotion to God in His house. Many who claim to be children of the heavenly King have no true appreciation for the holiness of eternal things.
Whispering, laughing, and speaking that may be permissible at an ordinary place of business without sin should find no approval in the house where God is worshiped. ... So that people can do their best work to proclaim God's praise, their connections must be such that they keep the holy separate from the ordinary in their spirit.
There should be rules concerning the time, place, and manner of worship. Nothing that is holy, nothing concerning the worship of God, should be treated with negligence or indifference.
Ordinary conversations, whispering, and laughing should not be permitted in the house of worship either before or after the service. Burning, active piety should characterize the worshippers.
It should not be made a place to meet and visit old friends or to introduce ordinary thoughts and secular business transactions. These should be left outside the church.
Eating the same amount of food on the Sabbath as on a workday is completely inappropriate. ... A clogged stomach means a clogged brain. Too often on the Sabbath a so large amount of food is eaten that the mind becomes dull and stupid and is unable to appreciate spiritual things.

  • Reverence in worship
