What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Did Jesus on the cross bear only the sins of all the redeemed, or also the guilt of those who have not repented of their guilt?"

Answer

The Scriptures make clear that Jesus' sacrifice on the cross applies to all people—not only to the redeemed. Christ "became sin for humanity" and made Himself responsible for every individual through His life; at the same time, the application of this sacrifice is bound to the condition of repentance and faith. Whoever does not repent of their guilt and does not accept the atoning sacrifice must bear the punishment of sin themselves—even though Christ has already taken the entire burden of guilt upon Himself.

Christ bore the guilt of all—yet forgiveness presupposes repentance

»Christ the sinless became sin for man. He bore the guilt of transgression, and the hiding of his Father's face, until his heart was broken and his life crushed out... And every soul that refuses to become a partaker of the atonement provided at such a cost, must bear, in his own person, the guilt and punishment of transgression.«

Christ has made Himself responsible for every person

»By pledging His own life Christ has made Himself responsible for every man and woman on the earth. He stands in the presence of God, saying, 'Father, I take upon Myself the guilt of that soul. It means death to him if he is left to bear it. If he repents he shall be forgiven. My blood shall cleanse him from all sin.«

Christ bore the sins of every sinner—yet whoever does not accept Him bears the punishment Himself

»As Christ bore the sins of every transgressor, so all who will not receive Him as a personal Saviour, and will not render obedience to the commandments of God, must bear the penalty of their own transgressions.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
