What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Write a loving letter from Ellen White's perspective to someone who, because of her epilepsy and scientific arguments, believes her visions were merely seizures and therefore rejects the Adventist Church."

Answer

My dear child, from the beginning of my ministry it deeply pained me when the works of the Spirit of God were dismissed as human deception or mere natural phenomena; yet in such trials I always sought only the presence of the Lord, who strengthened me in the light of heaven. Just as skeptics have tried to explain the experiences of the biblical prophets and the Apostle Paul as epileptic seizures or mental illnesses, today too there is an attempt to reduce God's supernatural work to a purely physical basis. I earnestly ask you, however, not to focus on such explanatory attempts, but to examine the messages by the Holy Scriptures – for their sole purpose is to direct the gaze toward Jesus Christ and to faithfully follow His eternal Word.

Refuge in Jesus amid Misunderstandings and Accusations

»Grieved and discouraged I often went alone to a solitary place to pour out my soul before Him who invites the weary and burdened to come and find rest. When my faith grasped the promises, Jesus seemed very near to me. The sweet light of heaven shone around me, and there I was carried away in a vision. Then I recounted what God alone had revealed to me, where no earthly influence could touch me; yet some said I had mesmerized myself [...] These things wounded my spirit and tormented my soul with deep pain, almost to despair, while many tried to make me believe that there is no Holy Spirit and that all experiences of God's holy men were merely mesmerism or the deceptions of Satan.«

The Reality of the Visions in the Presence of Christ

»If the Lord deems it right to give me a vision, I am transferred into the presence of Jesus and the angels and am lost to earthly matters. I cannot see beyond what the angel leads me to. My attention is often drawn to scenes that take place on earth. At times I am carried far into the future and shown what will happen. Then again I am shown things as they occurred in the past [...] In the recording or transcription of a vision I am as dependent on the Spirit of the Lord as I am in receiving the vision itself.«

An Explanation of Support for Sincere Souls

»‘From the beginning of my work I was pursued by hatred, accusations, and falsehoods [...] This struggle was carried on for almost forty years, yet I did not feel free to pay any attention to their evil words, accusations, and insinuations. And I would not deviate from this habit now, if it were not for the possibility that some sincere souls might be led astray by the enemies of truth who triumphantly portray me as a fraud. In the hope of assisting the thinking of the sincere, I make these statements.’«

The Attempt by Critics to Explain Biblical Visions as Illness

»The facts are that biblical skeptics and scoffers have indeed attempted this. They have tried to explain all biblical visions away on natural grounds. They have described the prophets as fanatics, as ecstatic, as trance mediums, as epileptics, and as anything else, except as what the Bible explains: prophets of God. It has already been noted that skeptics dismiss Paul's experience on the road to Damascus as an epileptic seizure. There are truly countless explanatory possibilities for those who start from the premise that nothing supernatural exists.«

The True Measure and Test of Divine Messages

»‘Yet there is a far stronger proof that the visions come from heaven than all these physical signs, and that is the nature of the messages they bring. They confirm the faith in the Scriptures as the inspired Word of God and in Jesus as the divine Son of God, our only Savior. They point the way to heaven and warn of dangers on the path. They provide instruction on how to overcome sin and become in character like Jesus. And the ultimate proof of their divine origin is that they agree in every point with the teaching recorded in the Bible...’«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
