The Holy Spirit withdraws from a congregation when discord, bitterness, and jealousy prevail among believers, as these fleshly traits are a direct obstacle to His work. As long as disputes and selfishness are nurtured, the outpouring of the Spirit cannot occur, and the spiritual discernment of the members becomes clouded. When Christians quarrel with one another, Satan instead takes control, leading to the loss of divine blessing and spiritual power.
Obstacles to the Work of the Holy Spirit
The Spirit can never be poured out as long as discord and bitterness are harbored against each other by the members of the congregation. Envy, jealousy, evil suspicions, and slander are from Satan, and they effectively block the way for the work of the Holy Spirit.
Consequences of Discord and Strife
The Spirit of God will not remain where discord and strife among believers over the truth prevail. Even if these feelings are not expressed, they take possession of the heart and drive out the peace and love that should characterize the Christian congregation.
The Withdrawal of the Spirit of Christ through Worldliness
