What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Why was the camp arrangement at the Tabernacle established in this way, and why were the tribes of Dan, Asher, and Naphtali camped on the north side?"
Answer
Israel's camp arrangement reflected God's perfect organization and purity, with God in the sanctuary forming the center of authority. The precise arrangement served to maintain order and holiness throughout the camp, as the presence of God required cleanliness and discipline. The tribes of Dan, Asher, and Naphtali were positioned in the north, with Dan as the leading tribe under its banner taking the leadership of this division.
Divine Organization and Order in the Camp
»Israel's government was characterized by an extremely thorough organization, which was wonderful both in its completeness and its simplicity. The order that so impressively manifests itself in the perfection and arrangement of all of God's works of creation was also evident in the Hebrew camp administration. God was the center of authority and government, the ruler of Israel. ... The Hebrew camp was arranged in exact order. It was divided into three large divisions, each having its assigned position in the camp. In the middle was the sanctuary, the dwelling place of the invisible King.«
The Positioning of the Tribes in the North
»Finally, the north side was taken by Dan with its banner, which probably was nearest to Benjamin or the north‑western corner. With Dan were Asher and Naphtali (the sons of Bilhah and Silpa), together forming a host of 157,600 men. This was also the marching order, with Judah leading with its division, followed by Reuben with its division, then the sanctuary with the Levites in the order of their encampment, while the rear guard consisted of the divisions of Ephraim and Dan.«
The Symbolic Significance of Purity and Order
»The leaders of the children of Israel were given special instructions that everything around and within their tents should be clean and orderly, so that the angel of God would not pass through their camp and see their impurity. Would the Lord pay attention to this? He would; for it is expressly noted: “so that if He sees their impurity, He cannot go into battle with their armies against their enemies.”«
Composition of the Northern Division
»Around the Tabernacle and its courtyard the tribes of the children of Israel were to pitch their tents in four large groups ... and Naphtali, Dan, and Asher under the banner of Dan in the north. ... Thus the entire camp consisted of 186,400 men in the east, 151,450 in the south, 108,100 in the west, and 157,600 in the north.«
