Adventistische Schriften über: "Why is the promise of eternal life so crucial for everything we believe? What in this world could compare with what Christ offers us?"

Answer

The promise of eternal life is decisive because it sets the standard for the value of all earthly things and helps us direct our affection toward the imperishable rather than the perishable. Christ offers us treasures against which the wealth of the world is meaningless, and He gives us a life measured by God's lifespan. True greatness and meaningfulness are attained in our present life only through the connection with the heavenly future and the priceless gift of Christ’s righteousness.

The Significance of Eternity Compared to the Earthly

When Christ came into this world, He saw that people had removed the future, eternal life from their calculations. He came to present this life to us, so that by contemplating it we would be moved to change our relationship to the things of this life, that our affection would be directed toward the heavenly things and not toward the things of the earth, which pass away so quickly.
All value and greatness of this life derive from its connection with heaven and the future, immortal life. God's eternal arm embraces the soul that turns to Him in supplication, no matter how weak that soul may be. The precious things of the hills will pass away; but the soul that lives for God... will remain with Him forever.
The richest treasures, the highest blessings of this life are scant and unsatisfying compared to those of the future, immortal life. Scenes of beauty will unfold to the senses that no language can describe. “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor has entered any human heart, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
Christ offers them a life measured against the life of God, and an eternally weighty glory beyond measure. If they accept Christ, they will have the highest honor, an honor that the world can neither give nor take away.
Eternal life is of infinite value and will cost us everything we have. I was shown that we do not give the proper appreciation to the eternal things. Everything that is worth possessing even in this world must be secured through effort and sometimes the most painful sacrifices. And this is done merely to obtain a fleeting treasure. Should we be less willing... to obtain a treasure of infinite value?
When God gave His Son to the world, He equipped human beings with imperishable riches, riches that, compared to the accumulated wealth of humanity since the beginning of the world, are nothing.
