What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "Why does Jesus remain silent before Pilate and Herod despite serious accusations, and when is silence rather than self‑defense appropriate in one's own life?"

Answer

Jesus remained silent before Herod because the latter had no genuine interest in the truth, but only wanted to satisfy his curiosity with a miracle; Christ never answered in order to save himself or to indulge pride. In our own lives, silence is appropriate when we encounter provocations or personal insults, since meekness and patience often work more powerfully against evil than angry words. However, there are exceptions: when lies threaten God's ministry or the salvation of others, a clear defense of truth and character is necessary to correct errors.

Jesus' Silence before the Proud Herod

»Jesus had no light for anyone who acted directly against the knowledge he had received from the greatest of the prophets. ... Those lips, ever ready to answer the questions of those seeking knowledge, ... had no words for the proud and cruel Herod. ... It was not Jesus' work to satisfy curiosity. His divine and miracle‑working power was to be employed for the salvation of others, not for his own benefit.«

Silence as an Example in Personal Trials

»Think of Jesus and what He has suffered for you, and be silent. Raise no complaint, utter no word of grumbling, let no thought of accusation or dissatisfaction enter your mind, even if you are mistreated and falsely accused. ... It may be a heavy cross to remain silent when you ought to, ... but be assured that silence contributes far more to overcoming evil than a storm of angry words.«

When Defense Rather Than Silence Is Necessary

»When misrepresentations threatened to destroy the impact of his ministry, fidelity to his mission made it necessary for him to honor God by defending his character and highlighting his office. ... Paul could not allow himself, through silence, to be driven out of the field by false teachers—teachers who would introduce erroneous views and theories that could lead sincere souls away from the truth.«

The Danger of Leaving People to the Lie

»If people attack their fellow humans and portray those whom God has destined to do work for Him in a ridiculous light, we would not do justice to the accusers or to those misled by their accusations if we were to remain silent and allow people to believe that their brothers and sisters ... are no longer worthy of love and fellowship. ... The people must not be left in faith to a lie.«

Gentleness Toward Opponents

»Even if you encounter the bitterest resistance, do not condemn your opponents. ... We must display patience, meekness, and long‑suffering. ... Think of Jesus and what He has suffered for you, and be silent. Make no complaint, even if you are abused and falsely accused.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
