Adventistische Schriften über: "Why do many Christians find the study of God's Word to be very difficult?"

Answer

Many people find the study of the Holy Scripture difficult because the finite human mind is naturally limited and weak in fully grasping the deep mysteries of God. Moreover, understanding is clouded when the Bible is read without reverence, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, or with a sin‑loving and proud heart. Misleading teachings from scholars who spiritualize clear statements, as well as human overconfidence, also make it harder to grasp biblical truths.

The Limitation of the Human Mind Regarding Divine Mysteries

»The Word of God contains, as does the character of its divine Author, mysteries that finite beings can never fully comprehend. The incursion of sin into the world, the incarnation of Christ, the rebirth, the resurrection, and many other topics presented in the Bible are mysteries that are too deep for the human mind to explain or even fully grasp. [...] The difficulty lies solely in the weakness and limitation of the human mind. God has given us sufficient evidence in the Scriptures for their divine character, and we should not doubt His Word because we cannot understand all the mysteries of His providence.«

Lack of Spiritual Mindset, Prayer, and Love of Sin

»Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit we are constantly in danger of distorting or misinterpreting the Scripture. There is much Bible reading that is without benefit and in many cases causes direct harm. When the Word of God is opened without reverence and without prayer; when thoughts and inclinations are not directed toward God or in harmony with His will, the mind becomes clouded by doubt; and especially during the study of the Bible skepticism increases. [...] No matter how much one tries to hide it: the real cause of doubt and skepticism in most cases is love of sin. The teachings and restrictions of the Word of God are unwelcome to the proud, sin‑loving heart, and those who are not willing to obey its requirements are quickly ready to question its authority.«

False Teachings and Approaching with Human Self‑Righteousness

»The truths most clearly revealed in the Bible have been shrouded in doubt and darkness by learned men who, under the pretense of great wisdom, teach that the Scriptures have a mystical, secret, spiritual meaning that is not evident in the language used. These men are false teachers. [...] Difficulties in the Scripture can never be mastered by the same methods applied to philosophical problems. We should not approach the study of the Bible with the self‑assurance that many bring to the realms of science, but in prayerful dependence on God and with the sincere desire to discern His will. We must come with a humble and teachable spirit to receive knowledge from the great I AM.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
