Although Samson disregarded God's commandments by drinking wine and engaging in sinful relationships, God did not initially withdraw his strength completely, because His mercy had not yet left him. His extraordinary strength was bound to his vow as a Nazirite, for which his uncut hair served as a symbol. God held onto Samson to begin His plan to deliver Israel despite the human weakness of His instrument.
