Adventistische Schriften über: "Why did Paul feel compelled to preach the gospel in Corinth?"
Answer
Paul felt compelled to proclaim the gospel in Corinth because he had a deep longing to save souls and bring them the joy and peace that he himself had experienced through the truth. Despite the opposition of the Jews and the moral corruption of the city, he was strengthened by a vision of the Lord, who commanded him to stay, saying He “much people in this city.” Moreover, Paul wanted to present to the Corinthians Jesus Christ as the Crucified One, because he was convinced that only faith in Him could truly uplift and refine people.
The Divine Command and the Longing for Soul‑Saving
»The heart of the true servant is filled with an intense desire to save souls. Time and strength are expended, arduous efforts not shunned; for others must hear the truths that brought such gladness, peace, and joy to his own soul. The Spirit of Christ rests upon him. He watches over the souls as one who must give an account.«
»When he planned to leave the city for a more promising field and earnestly tried to understand his duty, the Lord appeared to him in a vision and said: “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no one shall seize you to harm you; for I have much people in this city.” Paul understood this as a command to stay in Corinth, and as a guarantee that the Lord would multiply the seed that had been sown. Strengthened and encouraged, he continued the work there with zeal and perseverance.«
»He decided to pursue a different work plan in Corinth to attract the attention of the careless and indifferent. He resolved to avoid complex arguments and discussions and to know among the Corinthians “nothing except Jesus Christ and Him as the Crucified One.” He wanted to preach to them “not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in the demonstration of the Spirit and power.”«
