Adventistische Schriften über: "Why did Daniel pray in Daniel 2:20–23 and what lessons can be drawn from it?"

Answer

Daniel prayed in Daniel 2:20–23 to thank God for the revelation of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, after he and his companions had previously earnestly pleaded for divine help to avoid the impending death sentence. His prayer is an expression of praise for God’s wisdom and power, which are displayed in directing the affairs of kings and revealing deep mysteries. From this experience we can learn that corporate prayer possesses great power and that the blessings received from God should always be answered with sincere gratitude.

The Significance of United Prayer and Gratitude

»Daniel immediately went to his three companions and committed them to unite with him and to plead for the mercy of the God of the Potter regarding this mystery. He could have prayed alone, and undoubtedly would have been heard; but then, as now, there is a conquering power in the unity of God’s people, and the promise of the fulfillment of what is prayed for applies to the two or three who become one over it. ... God is honored when we give Him praise for the things He has done for us, as well as when we acknowledge through prayer our need for His help. Let Daniel’s approach be our example in this regard.«

Praise as an Essential Part of the Prayer Life

»Daniel and his companions held a time of praise, and the whole universe of heaven joined them in thanksgiving. Daniel said, “I thank you and praise you, O God of my fathers, who have given me wisdom and strength and now have revealed to me what we have asked of you.” ... If God’s love were to inspire even more thanksgiving and praise, we would have far greater power in prayer. ... When you consider His goodness and mercy, you will find that He will take your needs into account. Pray, pray earnestly and incessantly, but do not forget to praise.«

Daniel’s Character as a Model for Divine Illumination

»The life of Daniel is an inspired illustration of what constitutes a sanctified character. It offers a lesson for all... To reach the highest standard of moral and intellectual achievement, it is necessary to seek wisdom and strength from God. ... The Lord who heard Daniel’s prayer will also hear yours when you approach Him as Daniel did. ... God wants us to come to Him in prayer so that He may enlighten our spirit. He alone can give clear conceptions of truth.«
