Adventistische Schriften über: "Who was Melchisedek?"

Answer

Melchisedek was the king of Salem (“king of peace”) and a priest of the Most High God in the land of Canaan during Abraham’s time. When Abraham returned from the battle against the hostile kings, Melchisedek met him with bread and wine, praised God and blessed Abraham, after which the patriarch gave him the tenth of everything. By uniting the royal and priestly offices, Melchisedek served in biblical history as a significant type of Jesus Christ.

Melchisedec's Encounter with Abraham

»Another who came to greet the victorious patriarch was Melchisedek, the king of Salem, who brought bread and wine to refresh his army. As “priest of the Most High God” he pronounced a blessing over Abraham and thanked the Lord, who had wrought such a great deliverance through his servant. And Abraham “gave him the tenth of everything.”«

King and Priest of the Most High God

»In the days of Abraham there was Melchisedek, a king in the land of Canaan and a priest of the Most High God, who was a greater man than Abraham and whose greatness Abraham recognized by receiving his blessing and paying him the tenth.«

Melchisedek as a Type of Christ

»“For this Melchisedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High God, who met Abraham as he returned from the battle of the kings and blessed him, to whom Abraham also gave the tenth part of everything; whose name first translates as: king of righteousness, and also as: king of Salem, that is, king of peace.” In this great man the royal and priestly offices were united. He was not a priest of the Most High God to offer sacrifices or intercede: all that is reported of him as a priest is that “he blessed him who had the promises.” And in this he is a type of Him, who “will appear a second time without sin (without a sin offering) for redemption.”«

The Order of Melchisedek’s Priesthood

»There were two orders of priesthood: the Melchisedekian and the Levitical. The Melchisedekian order preceded the Levitical order. In Abraham’s time the priest Melchisedek was both king of Salem and priest of the Most High God. Although the Bible does not report much about Melchisedek’s priestly order, it was superior to the Levitical order, for Christ was made a priest after the order of Melchisedek.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
