Ellen Gould White über: "Who ultimately calls for the Sunday law in the end times?"
Answer
The call for a Sunday law ultimately comes from the Protestant churches, which unite with the Roman power and spiritism. To gain public favor and popularity, legislators give in to the pressure of the populace and enforce religious traditions with state force. Behind this entire development stands Satan, who drives religious and political leaders to replace God's law with human ordinances.
The driving forces behind the Sunday law
The dignitaries of church and state will unite to bribe, persuade, or force all classes to honor the Sabbath. The lack of divine authority will be compensated by oppressive decrees. Political corruption destroys love for justice and respect for truth; and even in free America, rulers and legislators, to secure public favor, will yield to the popular demand for a law enforcing Sunday sanctification.
In the movements currently underway in the United States to secure state support for the institutions and customs of the church, Protestants are following in the footsteps of the Papists. [...] It is the spirit of Papacy – the spirit of adapting to worldly customs, the worship of human traditions over God's commandments – that permeates the Protestant churches and leads them to perform the same work of elevating Sunday that the Papacy has done before them.
The church appeals to the strong arm of state power, and in this work Papists and Protestants unite. When the movement to enforce Sunday becomes bolder and more determined, the law will be invoked against the keepers of the commandments.
If Protestantism stretches its hand over the abyss to grasp the hand of Roman power, if it reaches over the abyss to unite with spiritism, if our nation, under the influence of this triple union, denies every principle of its constitution as a Protestant and republican government [...] then we must know that the time for Satan's marvelous work has come and the end is near.
To secure popularity and favor, legislators will give in to the demand for a Sunday law. [...] Persecuting rulers, preachers, and church members will conspire against them [the people of God].
The man of sin, who thought he could change times and laws, and who has always oppressed the people of God, will cause laws to be enacted that enforce observance of the first day of the week.
