In the writings of Ellen G. White, it is explicitly warned that the greatest danger and deception for the church comes from its own members. Particularly in "Testimonies for the Church, vol. 5," it is clearly stated that Satan's most dangerous snares will come through members who do not love God supremely or their neighbor as themselves. The Acts of the Apostles is also cited as a biblical foundation, according to which men will arise from among their own number to draw disciples away. Additionally, it is described that unconsecrated members lead others astray and sow doubt.
