What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "When is knowledge without love harmful according to 1 Corinthians 8?"
Answer
According to 1 Corinthians 8, knowledge without love is harmful because it inflates a person, making them proud and self‑satisfied instead of building a firm character. While love (charity) constructively builds the spiritual life and fellow humans, mere knowledge without this foundation leads to spiritless vanity and self‑exaltation. This form of knowledge is described as worthless and even dangerous, as it puts the ego first and obscures the view of service to others and to God.
The Difference Between Inflatedness and Building Up
»“Knowledge inflates, but love builds up.” There is a huge difference between being inflated and being built up. We should not understand the apostle as disparaging knowledge, but as showing that knowledge alone leads to nothing. ... Such a person would be inflated and could, like a drum, make a great noise, and many people might therefore consider them very important, but they would lack solidity and in reality be nothing. From the apostle’s statements we must conclude that knowledge without true love as its foundation is a worthless thing. It serves only to puff up, to glorify the owner, but not to build anything.«
Dangers of Knowledge Without the Spirit of God
»Knowledge alone about the Word of God is of no real benefit. It will never build character. It may ‘clean up’ the individual and bring them worldly admiration and honor; but it will not honor Christ. The divine is hidden by the human. The individual will find its main pleasure in what it knows and what its knowledge brings it. ... The difference is that between an inflated sack and a well‑built stone building.«
The Danger of Self‑Exaltation
»We should not boast of any knowledge we possess, even if it is knowledge of the Bible. While knowledge of the Bible is necessary, we actually boast of ourselves when we are proud of such knowledge; and knowledge that leads to this is not knowledge of God. ... The study of the Bible that does not result in God’s love being poured into the heart by the Holy Spirit produces Pharisees, but not Christians.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
