What does Ellen White write about...

Ellen Gould White über: "When does one fall out of grace again?"

Answer

One falls out of grace or loses one's steadfastness when one is led by false teachings to consider God's moral law as abolished or non‑binding for the believer. Likewise, neglect of the entrusted duties and a hard‑heartedness toward the missionary task leads to loss of spiritual standing.

God calls for constant vigilance and growth in grace, so that one is not swept away by the deception of the ungodly. Whoever sins must immediately repent to claim Christ's forgiving grace again and not remain in self‑satisfaction.

Danger of false teachings about grace

\n\n

»Others, however, held the view that "the elect cannot fall out of grace or lose divine favor," and arrived at an even more abhorrent conclusion that "the evil deeds they commit are not truly sinful... and therefore they have no reason to confess their sins or lay them down through repentance." ... They therefore explained that even one of the most abominable sins ... is not a sin in God's eyes if it is committed by one of the elect. These monstrous teachings are essentially the same as the later doctrine ..., that there is no immutable divine law as a standard for righteousness.«

Exhortation to steadfastness

\n

»Beloved, since you know this beforehand, guard yourselves so that you are not carried away by the error of the ungodly and lose your own steadfastness; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.«

Spiritual decline through neglect of duty

\n

»Such indifference and neglect of duty is a marvel to the angels. In judgment you must meet the souls you have neglected. On that great day you will be found and condemned yourself. May the Lord now lead you to repentance. ... "Remember now from what you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; but if not, I will soon come upon you and cast your lamp from its place, if you do not repent.«

\n\n

Growth instead of regression

\n

»Guard yourselves so that you do not also fall from your own steadfastness ...; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. ... God brings about a change in their lives and may lay upon them duties they would not choose for themselves. If they are ready to be led by Him, He will give them grace and strength.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
