What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "What was the purpose of anointing Jesus' body?"
Answer
The anointing of Jesus by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus was an expression of deepest respect and reverence toward the departed Savior. Nicodemus brought a precious mixture of myrrh and aloe to ensure that Jesus received an honorable burial, as was otherwise afforded only to the most esteemed citizens of Jerusalem. Through this act and the careful cleansing of the body, the disciples expressed their love and sympathy, even as their hopes lay shattered.
Reverence and Respect at the Burial of Jesus
»Nicodemus, who had foreseen the outcome of Joseph's conversation with Pilate, came with a precious mixture of myrrh and aloe weighing about one hundred pounds. The most honored person in all of Jerusalem could not have been shown more respect in death. Gently and reverently they took the body of Jesus from the instrument of torment with their own hands... The body was carefully wrapped together with the spices brought by Nicodemus in a linen cloth, and the three disciples carried their precious load to the new tomb.«
Gratitude and Love through Precious Anointing
»Mary loved her Lord. He had forgiven her many sins and had raised her beloved brother from the dead; and she felt that nothing was too costly to give to Jesus. The more precious the ointment, the better she could express her gratitude to her Savior by consecrating it to Him.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
