Adventistische Schriften über: "What significance do the Old and New Covenants have for the Christian faith?"

Answer

Both covenants are essential components of God's plan of redemption for humanity, each taking on different roles. While the Old Covenant (covenant of works) revealed humanity's sinfulness and its inability to save itself, the New Covenant (covenant of grace) offers forgiveness through the blood of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. However, the goal of both covenants remains identical: to bring humanity back into perfect obedience to God's eternal law of love.

Conditions and Goals of the Two Covenants

»Under the New Covenant, the conditions by which eternal life can be obtained are the same as under the Old—perfect obedience. In the new and better covenant, Christ has fulfilled the law for those who transgress the law when they accept Him in faith as their personal Redeemer... In the better covenant we are cleansed from sin by the blood of Christ... He will place His perfect law, which is "holy, just, and good," into their hearts.«

The Sanctuary as a Connection Between the Covenants

»This sanctuary... is not something that was limited to the old age, but also has its place in the New Covenant. It unites the two great orders of salvation, the Mosaic and the Christian, and reveals their relationship to each other. The ordinances of the Old Covenant were types; the provisions of the New Covenant are their antitypes.«

Difference in the Promises

»What clearly distinguishes the New Covenant... from the covenant with the fathers at Sinai is that it consists entirely of promises given by God Himself, rather than being a pact based on mutual promises. In the Old Covenant, blessings were tied to the people's promise, which relied on its own strength... in the New Covenant everything depends on God's promises, and a mediator is provided. The New Covenant is all the more better than the Old Covenant (the covenant of works) insofar as God's promises are better than human promises.«

The Constancy of God's Law

»Thus the New Covenant is based on the constancy of God's law; it does not abolish this law, but removes sin—the transgression of the law—from the heart and replaces it with God's law. The continuation of each individual command of the moral law therefore underlies the foundation of the New Covenant.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
