When leaders fail or are disobedient, this does not exempt the individual from his personal responsibility before God, since God's Word and duties are clearly laid out for everyone. Believers must not excuse their own misconduct with the errors of the leadership, but must turn directly to God. The Lord Himself is the true King and supreme Leader of His people, whom one can safely follow, because He never makes mistakes.

Personal Responsibility Despite the Failure of Leaders

»The neglect on the part of the preachers has made the people careless and unfaithful. They have not felt their individual responsibility, but have excused themselves because of the preachers' failure to do the work of a shepherd. But God does not consider them excused. If they had no Bible, they would have no warnings, rebukes, and pleas from heaven to bring their duty to their attention, there would be less condemnation. Yet the Lord has given counsel and instruction; the duty of each individual has been made so clear that no one must make a mistake.«

God is the True and Infallible Leader
