Adventistische Schriften über: "What is the significance of burning the entrails of the sin offering on the burnt offering altar?"
Answer
The burning of the fat of the entrails on the burnt offering altar symbolized the final destruction of sin. Since the fat represented sin, its separation from the animal and subsequent burning illustrated that the sinner was ready to detach himself from his misdeeds and have them destroyed. The fire on the altar displayed the fate of the ungodly, who will ultimately be burned to ash together with sin if they do not separate from it in time.
The Significance of the Burning Fat
»After the blood had been offered before the Lord, the sinner still had an important task to perform. With his own hands he was to remove all the fat from the various organs of the animal presented as a sin offering and give it to the priest, who would burn it on the bronze altar. At first glance this may seem like a strange ceremony, but when we remember that the fat represented sin, we see that it is an appropriate ceremony. ... In it he saw only ash as the final end of all those who would not separate from sin; for if sin were a part of themselves, then when the sin was burned, they would be burned with it.«
A Pleasing Aroma Through the Destruction of Sin
»The fat is burned as an example of final destruction, when “the ungodly will perish and the enemies of the Lord will be like the fat of lambs; they will be consumed; they will vanish in smoke.” Every sinner who clings to sin will be destroyed with the sin. God has provided that everyone can separate from sin so that He may destroy the sin and save the sinner. The burning fat on the altar rose as a pleasing aroma before God, for it represented the sin that had been separated from and destroyed by the sinner, while the sinner, through Christ, lived a new life.«
The Perfection of the Offering Despite the Burden of Sin
»Indeed, a part, “the fat,” was burned on the altar to show that the offering, although made a bearer of sin, was perfect in itself. But the body of the offering, “even the whole bull,” was cast out of the camp.«
The Path to True Peace
»The separation and burning of the fat symbolized the only way true peace can be attained; namely, by delivering all our sins to the rightful Owner. The Prince of Peace, the blessed Savior, “gave Himself for our sins.” He redeemed them so that He could destroy sin and give us peace. This was appropriately depicted by the priest … who took the fat from the hands of the one who presented the peace offering and burned it on the altar.«
