Adventistische Schriften über: "What is the heart according to the Bible?"
Answer
According to the Bible, the heart is the spiritual center and the “fortress” of a person, from which decisions about life and death arise. It is often equated with the mind; receiving a “new heart” therefore means receiving a new way of thinking and a clear understanding of the Christian duty. Since the natural heart is considered deceitful, it must be renewed and cleansed by divine grace so that the will of God can dwell within it.
The Heart as the Center of Thought and Life
The words “I will give you a new heart” mean: I will give you a new mind. This heart transformation always accompanies a clear notion of the Christian duty and an understanding of the truth.
The heart is the fortress of the being, and as long as it is not completely on the Lord’s side, the enemy will achieve constant victories over us through his deceitful temptations.
“Guard your heart with all diligence,” is the advice of the wise man; “for from it flows life.” As a person “thinks in his heart, so he is.” The heart must be renewed by divine grace, otherwise it is futile to strive for purity of life.
The new heart is a heart that loves righteousness and hates sin. It is a heart willing to be led onto the paths of righteousness. ... In short, it is a heart that is free from love of sin as well as from the guilt of sin.
The heart is the fortress of a person. From it arise the questions of life or death. Until the heart is cleansed, a person is unfit to partake in the fellowship of the saints.
The heart is naturally inclined toward falsehood and must be trained, educated, and disciplined to run in the right channels and do the things that God approves, regardless of our inclinations.
