What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "What is the difference between the daily incense at the incense altar and the incense during the burnt offering?"

Answer

The daily incense at the golden altar and the burning of the burnt offering on the bronze altar fulfilled different symbolic functions in the sanctuary service. While the burnt offering in the forecourt symbolized the daily consecration and dependence on the atoning blood of Christ, the incense in the sanctuary represented the addition of Christ's righteousness to the prayers of the believers. Both services took place simultaneously to show that prayer and worship are acceptable to God only through the sacrifice and the intercession of Christ.

The Service at the Incense Altar and the Burnt Offering Altar

»The daily service consisted of the morning and evening burnt offering, the offering of fragrant incense on the golden altar, and special sacrifices for individual sins... Every morning and evening a one‑year‑old lamb was burned on the altar... which symbolized the daily consecration of the nation to Jehovah and its continual dependence on the atoning blood of Christ.«

»While the high priest performed the daily service in the sanctuary morning and evening at the golden altar, the priests in the forecourt burned the whole burnt offering, the grain offering, and the drink offering on the bronze altar, and the people were gathered outside and prayed. ... This typified the addition of the fragrant incense of Christ's righteousness to the prayers of God's people, making them acceptable to God.«

»When the incense was offered, the priest was brought more directly into the presence of God than by any other act of the daily service. ... The incense that rose with the prayers of Israel represents the merits and intercession of Christ, His perfect righteousness credited to His people through faith, and which alone can make the worship of sinful beings acceptable to God. In front of the veil of the Most Holy Place stood an altar of continual intercession, before the holy one an altar of ongoing atonement. Through blood and through incense one should approach God.«

»The whole burnt offering ... placed on the altar and burned typified not only a handing over of sin, but a consecration of the entire life for the service of God.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
