Adventistische Schriften über: "What is the connection between Melchizedek and the messianic role of Jesus?"

Answer

The connection between Melchizedek and Jesus Christ lies in the union of the royal and priestly offices, which were strictly separated in the Levitical system. As a priest according to the order of Melchizedek, Jesus possesses an imperishable priesthood that is based on the “power of an indissoluble life” and requires no successor. This messianic role enables him to serve as the perfect mediator in the heavenly sanctuary and to fully save believers.

The Union of Kingship and Priesthood

»In this great Man the royal and priestly offices were united. ... In this he is a model for Him, who “will appear a second time, without sin (as a sin‑offering), for redemption.” His name is significant for his royal dignity; and as such the Son of God will appear at his return. ... The union of the priestly with the royal office presents the Redeemer at that time when “he will sit on his throne and reign and a priest will be on his throne.”«

An Eternal and Intransferable Priesthood

»He was “a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” ... Christ, like Melchizedek, had no priestly lineage or genealogy; that is, he follows no one and will have no successor in the office; and “because he remains forever, he has an unchanging priesthood” (that does not pass from one to another). The Levitical priesthood had to have many priests in succession in order to continue, “because they were prevented from remaining by death.”«

Perfection through the Melchizedek Order

»It is shown that perfection is attained only through the Melchizedek priesthood. And it is shown that this has always been the case and that the Levitical priesthood was only temporary and a type pointing to the Melchizedek priesthood. ... Through these writings it is perfectly clear that the perfection of the worshiper is what is offered and achieved in the priesthood and service of Christ.«

Christ as Our High Priest in Heaven

»Thank God, we live under the Melchizedek priesthood, with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the great High Priest. Christ the Lord, as our Melchizedek in the sanctuary in heaven, “remains forever”; from Him “it is testified that He lives” and He lives eternally. ... With Jesus as our great High Priest over the house of God we bring Him our tithes.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
