Adventistische Schriften über: "What impact does Sabbath rest have on the nature of man?"
Answer
Sabbath rest is essential for the physical and mental constitution of humans, to prevent exhaustion and to strengthen the social and religious nature. By turning away from worldly concerns, the spirit is refreshed and the heart is filled with love and reverence, as the person aligns his nature again with the character of the Creator. Moreover, the Sabbath serves the spiritual renewal of the soul and as a sign of sanctification that reshapes the person inwardly in the image of God.
The Physical and Spiritual Necessity of Rest
»The mental and physical constitution of man is such that he needs a time of rest. Without it he must collapse. Without it he cannot live. Constant work weakens the muscular system... But the spirit needs rest just as the body does and cannot do without it. Man is a social and religious being and, as such, requires a time for the special exercise of these components of his nature.«
Refreshment and Elevation of the Spirit
»The Sabbath was made for man to be a blessing to him, by diverting his spirit from worldly labor to contemplate the goodness and glory of God. ... It was instituted so that man rests from his work, so that when he looks upon the earth and the heavens he reflects that God created all this in six days ... and his heart is filled with love and reverence for his Creator.«
Sanctification and Transformation of the Soul
»The power that created all things is the power that recreates the soul in His image. For those who keep the Sabbath holy, it is the sign of sanctification. True sanctification is harmony with God, oneness with Him in character. It is received through obedience to those principles that are the expression of His character.«
Strengthening Gratitude and Relationship with God
»God saw that a Sabbath was essential for man, even in Paradise. He had to set aside his own interests and occupations for one day a week, so that he could more fully consider God's works and reflect on His power and goodness. He needed a Sabbath to remind him more vividly of God and to awaken gratitude.«
Life Force for the Soul
»The Sabbath directs our thoughts to nature and brings us into fellowship with the Creator. ... And when we contemplate His power in nature, we find comfort, for the Word that created all things is the one that gives life to the soul.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
