Adventistische Schriften über: "What has God shown you regarding the 5th trumpet?"

Answer

The writings of Adventist exegetes explain that the fifth trumpet (the first woe) from Revelation 9 represents the rise of Mohammedanism as well as the activity of the Saracens and Turks as judgment upon the fallen church. The fallen star symbolizes Mohammed, while the locusts represent the warlike powers. The prophetic period of five months (150 prophetic days or years) is dated to the time from 1299 to 1449, during which the Turks pressured and tormented the Eastern Roman Empire without fully conquering it.

The Fifth Trumpet and the Fallen Star as Mohammed

»And the fifth angel sounded his trumpet: and I saw a star that had fallen from heaven to the earth; and to it was given the key of the abyss." A star in the figurative language of Revelation is a servant of religion. See: "The seven stars are the angels (or servants) of the seven churches." A fallen star would therefore denote a fallen or heretical religious servant. This was undoubtedly the Arab deceiver Mohammed. There is such a general agreement among Christians, especially among Protestant commentators, that the object of this prophecy is Mohammedanism...«

Fulfillment of the Five Months of Prophetic Time by the Saracens and Turks

»This trumpet, represented by the first rider on the chart, was fulfilled by the Saracens. The fifth trumpet began sounding on July 27, 1299, when Othman, the founder of the Turkish Empire, made his first attack on the Greeks. It extended over 150 years until 1449. Its power lay in tormenting, not killing. Throughout this entire period the Turks were in an almost constant war with the Greek Empire, yet without conquering it. When the fifth angel ceased, it was said: "The first woe is past; behold, two more woes follow these things.«

The Fifth Trumpet as the First Woe

»The three last trumpets are each associated with a woe for the inhabitants of the earth. The fifth trumpet is the first woe; the sixth trumpet the second woe; the seventh and final trumpet the third woe. "There is among the exegetes hardly any such unanimous agreement regarding any part of the Apocalypse as there is concerning the application of the fifth and sixth trumpets, i.e., the first and second woes, to the Saracens and Turks." It is so obvious that it can hardly be misunderstood.«
