Adventistische Schriften über: "What exactly happened to Nebuchadnezzar?"
Answer
Because of his pride and disregard for divine warnings, Nebuchadnezzar was humbled by a heavenly judgment and instantly lost his mind. He was cast out by the people, lived for seven years among the field animals and ate grass like an ox, until he recognized the sovereignty of God. After this period of trial his reason was restored, after which he publicly praised God and was reinstated to his kingdom.
The Fall and Humiliation of the King
Nebuchadnezzar failed to make use of the warning he had received; yet God endured him for twelve months before the blow fell. All the while he harbored pride in his heart... The time for his humiliation had come. A voice from heaven again announced the threatened judgment, and divine providence moved immediately to execute it... He left the dwellings of men and sought a home and fellowship among the animals of the forest.
In an instant his mind, which God had given him, was taken away; the judgment he considered perfect, the wisdom he was proud of, was removed, and the once mighty ruler became a lunatic. His hand could no longer wield the scepter... Nebuchadnezzar "ate grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until his hair grew like eagle feathers and his nails like bird talons.
For seven years Nebuchadnezzar was a marvel to all his subjects; for seven years he was humbled before the whole world. Then his mind was restored, and by humbly looking to the God of heaven he acknowledged the divine hand in his chastisement. In a public proclamation he confessed his guilt and the great mercy of God in his restoration.
When God cannot save people in prosperity, He brings affliction upon them... He became a lunatic and spent seven years among the livestock, as a companion of the animals, and ate as they ate. Since his mind was dethroned, he was no longer even regarded as a human.
The affliction had its intended effect. The lesson of humility was learned. He did not forget it with the returning prosperity. He was ready to acknowledge that the Highest rules in the realm of men... and he sent throughout his entire kingdom a royal proclamation that contained a confession of his pride and a manifesto of praise and worship for the King of heaven.
