What does Ellen White write about...

Ellen Gould White über: "What does the Bible say about the danger of compromises?"

Answer

Even a single deviation from biblical principles and the making of compromises weakens moral judgment as well as the abhorrence of evil. Whoever sacrifices God's principles to gain worldly recognition, earthly peace, or favors puts his connection to heaven—and ultimately his eternal life—at risk. Even a seemingly small step of yielding paves the way for further transgressions and leads to spiritual dullness.

The disastrous consequences of a first compromise

»What would have happened if Daniel and his companions had made a compromise with those pagan officials and yielded to the pressure of the occasion by eating and drinking as was customary among the Babylonians? That single deviation from the principle would have weakened their sense of what is right and their abhorrence of injustice. Yielding to the desire for food would have cost them physical strength, mental clarity, and spiritual authority. One false step would likely have led to further ones, until, after their connection with heaven was torn away, they were carried off by temptation.«

The danger of sacrificing faith for earthly peace

»But you are precisely at the point where you are stripped of your strength and ready to compromise your faith and loyalty to God in order to please your new wife. God has mercy on you, for ruin lies before you if you do not awaken like a true soldier of Christ and re-enter the battle for eternal life. [...] You are about to sacrifice the truth for the sake of earthly peace and happiness. You are selling your soul on a cheap market.«

Danger through minor deviations from God's commandments

»A minor deviation from the truth, a small alteration of God's requirements is not considered so sinful when financial gain or loss is at stake. But sin is sin, whether it is committed by a millionaire or a beggar on the street. [...] The slightest deviation from truthfulness and righteousness is a violation of God's law. Continued tolerance of sin habituates a person to false conduct, but does not diminish the serious nature of the sin.«

Warning against adapting to worldly principles

»Now, more than ever, we must recognize the danger of being carelessly led away from loyalty to God's commandments. [...] Our people should guard against diminishing the significance of the Sabbath in order to associate with unbelievers. They should beware of deviating from the principles of our faith and making it appear as if it is not wrong to conform to the world.«

Steadfastness against influences from the surroundings

»Do not deviate from your righteousness, no matter how uncomfortable your duties may seem in the present crisis. It may appear as if you are called to make great sacrifices to preserve the purity of your soul; but do not hesitate; press forward in the fear of God [...]. Do not relinquish your religious claims and privileges in order to satisfy the wishes of your unholy‑minded friends and relatives.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
