What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "What does Job 1:1-4, where Job is described as a righteous and blameless man, mean?"
Answer
Job is described as a man of extraordinary moral excellence, whose righteousness was not based on natural gifts but on his deep faith. His piety was steady and manifested in his self‑sacrificing concern for the spiritual welfare of his family as well as in his continual prayer life. This divine testimony served to refute Satan’s claim that obedience to God occurs only out of selfish motives.
Divine Acknowledgment of Moral Excellence
»The Lord Himself gave this testimony about Job: “There is none like him on earth, a blameless and upright man who fears God and shuns evil.” What a degree of moral excellence must have been attained by Job to merit such words of acknowledgment from the Lord! … They were all people with the same passions as we are, and all the righteousness they achieved was not due to greater natural endowments, but to their faith.«
Steadfast Piety and Familial Fidelity
»It is said about Job: “When the days of their feasting were over, Job sent them away, sanctified them, rose early in the morning and offered burnt offerings for each of them; for Job said, ‘Perhaps my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts.’ So Job always acted thus.” This is truly high praise. … Job’s religion was more like a deep and broad river that flows silently, refreshing and fertilizing every region it passes through. His piety was as regular as the rising sun.«
Refutation of Satan’s Accusations through Selflessness
»There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and this man was blameless and upright, one who feared God and shunned evil. Self‑lessness, the principle of the Kingdom of God, is the principle that Satan hates; he denies its very existence. From the beginning of the great conflict he has tried to prove that God’s principles of action are selfish, and he deals in the same way with all who serve God. Refuting Satan’s claim is the work of Christ and all who bear His name.«
A Life in the Service of Righteousness and Truth
»God has given in His Word a picture of Job, a wealthy man—a man whose life, in the truest sense of the word, was a success, a person who honored both heaven and earth. … The right to choose because it is right; to stand for truth at the cost of suffering and sacrifice—“this is the inheritance of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me, says the Lord.”«
