What does Ellen White write about...
Ellen Gould White über: "What does Ellen White write about 1 Corinthians 15:52?"
Answer
Ellen White explains that the transformation "in an instant", as described in 1 Corinthians 15:52, is a future event at the second coming of Christ. This promise applies specifically to believers who are alive at the end of time, since Paul and the Corinthians of that era died without experiencing this immediate immortality. When the last trumpet sounds, the sleeping saints will be raised imperishable and the living righteous will be glorified together with them, to meet the Lord in the air.
The special application to the last generation
»Paul says: "Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all fall asleep, but we shall all be transformed; and the same suddenly, in an instant, at the time of the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be transformed." Should we say that the threefold use of the word "we" in this quotation only includes Paul and the members of the Corinthian congregation at that time? The circumstances do not allow such a narrow application. Paul and his brothers in Corinth fell asleep—they died. The last trumpet did not sound then. And none of them were transformed into immortality in an instant. Therefore this testimony has a special application to Christians who are alive on earth at the second coming of Christ.«
The transformation of the living righteous
»The living righteous will be "in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye" transformed. At the voice of God they were glorified; now they are made immortal and will be caught up with the risen saints to meet their Lord in the air.«
Preparation for the imperishable kingdom
»At His coming the righteous dead will be raised and the righteous living will be transformed... Through this great change they are prepared to receive the kingdom; for Paul says: "Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption." Man in his present condition is mortal, perishable; but the kingdom of God will be incorruptible and everlasting... But when Jesus comes, He grants immortality to His people.«
The triumph over death and the grave
»The earth shook mightily when the voice of the Son of God called the sleeping saints. They answered the call and came forth, clothed with glorious immortality, and shouted: "Victory, victory over death and the grave! Death, where is your sting? Hell, where is your victory?" Then the living saints and the resurrected raised their voices in a long, delightful cry of triumph... The living saints will be transformed in a moment, in an instant, and caught up with the resurrected, and together they will meet their Lord in the air.«
The crowning of the overcomers
»And when the last trumpet sounds and the dead are called out of their prison and in an instant, in the twinkling of an eye, are transformed, the crowns of immortal glory will be placed on the heads of the overcomers. The pearl gates will open for the peoples who have kept the truth, and they will enter. The conflict is ended.«
