What does Ellen White write about...
Ellen Gould White über: "What does Ellen say about marriage between people of different backgrounds and nationalities?"
Answer
Ellen states that marriage between whites and blacks is not advisable, as it leads to controversy, confusion, and bitterness, and is not God’s will. She advises Christians to marry within their own race. At the same time, she encourages believers to come together across national boundaries, break down walls between nationalities, and understand themselves as one in Christ. Her teaching emphasizes that all people are equal before God, regardless of race or nationality.
\n\nEllen on interracial marriage (white-black)
\n\n\n»However, there are objections to marriage between the white and black races. Everyone should consider that they cannot give their descendants the right to place them in a disadvantageous position; they have no right to give their children as a birthright a situation that would subject them to a life of humiliation. The children of such mixed marriages have a sense of bitterness toward the parents who have given them this lifelong burden. For this reason, if there were no other, there should be no intermarriage between the white and colored races.\nDear friend, in response to inquiries regarding the legitimacy of interracial marriages between young Christians of the white and black races, I would like to say that this question has already been presented to me earlier, and the light given to me by the Lord was that this step should not be taken; for it will surely create controversy and confusion. I have always given the same advice. No encouragement to marriages of this kind should be given among our people. Let the colored brother marry a colored sister who is worthy, who loves God and keeps His commandments. Let the white sister who intends to marry the colored brother reject this step, for the Lord does not lead in this direction. Time is too precious to be lost in controversies that will arise over this matter. Do not allow questions of this kind to distract our preachers from their work. The execution of such a step will create confusion and obstacles. It will not be for the advancement of the work or for the glory of God.\nThe Lord looks with compassion upon the creatures He has made, regardless of the race they belong to. God ‘has made of one blood all nations of men, that they should dwell on the face of the earth.’ And the Savior said to His disciples: ‘Ye are all one.’ God is our common Father, and every one of us is his brother’s keeper.«
Ellen on the unification of different nationalities
\n»God therefore wants the different nationalities to mix together to be one in judgment and purpose. Then the unity that is in Christ is illustrated. I urge you, brothers and sisters, not to build a wall of separation between the different nationalities, but seek to tear it down wherever it exists. We have not six patterns to follow, nor five; we have only one, and that is Christ Jesus. I urge you, brothers and sisters, not to build a wall of separation between the different nationalities.«
