What does Ellen White write about...

Adventistische Schriften über: "What does Acts 18:9–10 reveal about Paul's feelings in Corinth and how did God encourage him?"

Answer

In Corinth Paul felt discouraged and deeply dejected spiritually in view of the deep moral corruption of the Gentiles and the hostility from the Jews. He doubted whether it was wise to build a congregation in such a difficult environment, and was already planning to leave the city. However, God encouraged him through a night vision in which He assured him of His presence and protection and revealed that He still had many followers in that city.

Paul's Discouragement and God's Promise in Corinth

\n

»Although Paul had a certain measure of success, he grew very weary from what his eyes saw and his ears heard in the corrupt city of Corinth. He doubted the wisdom of building a congregation from the material he found there. He regarded Corinth as a very questionable field of work and decided to leave it. The corruption he saw among the Gentiles, and the contempt and insult he received from the Jews, caused him great spiritual pain. As he was considering leaving the city for a more promising field ... the Lord appeared to him in a night vision and said, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no one shall attack you to cause you harm; for I have many people in this city.” Paul understood this as a command to stay in Corinth, and as a guarantee that the Lord would give growth to the seed that had been sown. Strengthened and encouraged, he continued the work there with great zeal and perseverance for one year and six months.«

The Divine Vision as a Turning Point

\n

»Although Paul had a certain measure of success in Corinth, the godlessness he saw and heard in this corrupt city almost discouraged him. The corruption he experienced among the Gentiles, and the contempt and insult he received from the Jews, caused him great spiritual distress. ... While he was planning to leave the city for a more promising field, and earnestly trying to understand his duty, the Lord appeared to him in a vision and said, “Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent: for I am with you, and no one shall attack you to cause you harm: for I have many people in this city.” Paul understood this as a command to stay in Corinth, and as a guarantee that the Lord would give growth to the seed that had been sown.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
