Adventistische Schriften über: "What are we Christians lacking in the end times?"
Answer
Christians in the end times especially lack genuine faith and a deep dependence on the merits of Jesus, as they often look more to themselves than to Him. Moreover, there is a lack of the necessary appreciation and longing for the Holy Spirit, which leads to spiritual drought and a focus on unimportant trivialities. Finally, a deficiency in vigilance, prayer, and self‑denial becomes evident, while worldliness and selfishness replace vibrant piety.
The Lack of True Faith and Devotion
Since we see so little burden for the work resting on preachers and the people, we ask: When the Lord comes, will He find faith on earth? It is faith that is lacking. God has an abundance of grace and power ready, waiting for our request. But the reason we do not feel our great need for it is that we look to ourselves and not to Jesus. We do not lift up Jesus and do not wholly rely on His merits.
Neglect of Divine Power
Wherever the need for the Holy Spirit is a somewhat overlooked topic, there one sees spiritual drought, spiritual darkness, spiritual decay, and death. Whenever trivialities occupy attention, the divine power necessary for the growth and flourishing of the church is lacking, a power that would bring all other blessings in its wake, even though it is offered in infinite abundance.
Dying Faith and Egoism
The Lord is coming. Let each show his faith through his works. Faith in the imminent return of Christ is dying out in the churches, and selfishness prompts them to rob God in order to serve their own personal interests. When Christ remains in us, we will be self‑denying as He is.
Lack of Moral Purity and Selflessness
Christ says of you: “One thing is still missing from you.” [...] He has shown you through His humble servant that you lack devotion to the honor of God, that you lack moral excellence of character that would lead you to have an unselfish interest in others. You may be perfect in the eyes of others, but in the eyes of God you have a stained character and must overcome selfishness.
Lack of Vigilance and Worldliness
We fear that this duty is completely lacking. “Watch and pray always, so that you may be deemed worthy to escape all this...” But who takes this instruction of the Savior to heart as they should? [...] Instead of a habitual spirit of vigilance, so much worldliness fills the church! What greed for worldly fame and sensual pleasures!
