What does EGW write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "What are the consequences of nutrient‑poor food? Is it also a violation of the natural laws if I know that my diet, due to depleted soils, over‑breeding, etc., no longer provides sufficient nutrients and I hope that God will already ensure that my body receives enough nutrients?"
Answer
A deficient or nutrient‑poor diet inevitably leads to “depleted blood,” which in turn results in disease, digestive disorders, and general weakness. It is a violation of the natural laws to deliberately eat inadequately and expect God to preserve health through a miracle while ignoring available knowledge. God does not perform miracles to protect those who neglect their own health and do not make the possible efforts to properly nourish their bodies.
Consequences of an Inadequate Diet
There are some who go to extremes... If they take a small amount of food, and not of the best quality, they do not provide the stomach with what can adequately nourish the organism. Bad food cannot be turned into good blood. A deprived diet will cause the blood to become impoverished.
God's Action and Personal Responsibility
Many have expected that God would protect them from illness simply because they asked Him to. But God did not heed their prayers because their faith was not made complete through works. God will not perform a miracle to protect those who do not look after themselves, but constantly violate the health laws and make no effort to prevent disease.
The Duty to Acquire Knowledge
The Lord will not work a miracle to keep someone healthy who does not strive to obtain the knowledge within his reach about this wonderful dwelling place that God has given us. By studying the human organism we are to learn to correct what may be wrong in our habits...
Danger of False Frugality and One‑Sided Ideas
There can be such an effort at frugality in food preparation that it becomes a meager fare instead of a healthy diet. What is the result? Poverty of the blood. I have seen several cases of illnesses that were the hardest to cure and were due to a depleted diet.
Physical Laws Are God's Laws
The laws of the physical system are indeed the laws of God, but this fact seems to have been forgotten. Some have limited themselves to a diet that cannot keep them healthy. They have not provided nourishing foods that could replace harmful items... The system must be properly fed in order to perform its work.
