Adventistische Schriften über: "What are the bold testimony of Paul and the entire Letter to the Colossians about?"
Answer
The bold testimony of Paul speaks of his final triumphant declaration of faith before his martyrdom—he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith, and now looks forward to the crown of righteousness. The Letter to the Colossians deals with the supremacy and perfection of Christ as Creator and Redeemer, before whom all visible and invisible things were created and through whom all things exist. At the same time, the letter warns against false teachings, philosophies, and human traditions, and exhorts believers to a life in Christ characterized by mercy, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love.
The letter reveals the wonderful possibilities of the Christian life and makes clear that there are no limits to the blessings that the children of God can receive. Believers should set their focus on the heavenly, for their life with Christ is hidden in God.
The Final Bold Testimony of Paul
»Nearly twenty centuries have passed since the aged Paul shed his blood as a witness to the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. No faithful hand recorded the final scenes of this holy man's life for future generations, but inspiration has preserved his dying testimony for us. Like a trumpet call, his voice has sounded through all ages since then, strengthening thousands of witnesses for Christ with his own courage and awakening in thousands of sorrowful hearts the echo of his own triumphant joy: “I am now being sacrificed, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; now the crown of righteousness is prepared for me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, not to me alone, but also to all who love His appearance.”«
Christ as Creator and Redeemer
»The apostle exalted Christ before his brethren as the one through whom God had created all things and through whom He had worked their redemption. He explained that the hand that holds the worlds in space and sustains all things in the entire universe of God in their orderly arrangement and tireless activity is the same hand that was nailed to the cross for them. “Through Him all things were created,” Paul wrote, “that are in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers: all are by Him and for Him created. And He is before all, and everything exists in Him. And you, who once were strangers and enemies in your thoughts and evil deeds, He has now reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, blameless, and spotless before Him.”«
Warning Against False Teachings
»A warning against false doctrine is found in Paul’s letter to the Colossians. The apostle explains that the hearts of believers “should be united in love and to all the riches of full understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, the Father, and Christ, in which all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden. I say this,” he continues, “so that no one may deceive you with persuasive words... As you have now accepted Christ Jesus, the Lord, so walk in Him and be rooted and built up in Him, firm in the faith as you have been taught, and be abundantly grateful. See that no one deprives you through philosophy and false deceit according to human tradition and the statutes of the world and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells the full fullness of deity bodily. And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principalities and powers.”«
Lessons for Christian Service
»The Letter to the Colossians is filled with lessons of the highest value for all who are engaged in Christ’s service, lessons that show the simplicity of purpose and the loftiness of the goal, as seen in the life of one who rightly represents the Redeemer. By renouncing everything that would hinder him from making progress on the upward path or turning another’s feet away from the narrow way, the believer will reveal in his daily life mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and the love of Christ.«
The High Ideal for Christians
»Thus Paul expressed his desire for the faithful Colossians in words. How lofty is the ideal that these words set before the successor of Christ! They demonstrate the wonderful possibilities of the Christian life and make clear that there are no limits to the blessings that the children of God can receive. Continually growing in the knowledge of God, they can progress from strength to strength, from height to height in the Christian experience, until they are empowered by “His glorious power,” “to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”«
