William Miller was an American farmer and reformer who was chosen by God to lead the proclamation of the Second Advent of Christ during the 1830s and 1840s. Although he initially doubted the Bible, he was led by divine influence to study the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation, concluding that Christ’s return was imminent. Despite facing bitter opposition and the disappointment of 1844, his ministry resulted in the conversion of thousands and ignited a great religious awakening.
