What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "Was the number of priests in the tabernacle fewer than in the temple, and therefore did Aaron and his sons perform the service at the incense altar more frequently than Zacharias?"
Answer
In the tabernacle there was a daily service in the first compartment that could be performed only by the high priest, namely the offering of incense on the golden altar and the tending of the lamps. Since it was impossible for a single man to handle all of the sacrificial work alone, there was a group of ordinary priests who assisted him, especially in the courtyard and in general duties within the sanctuary. The documents indicate that the high priest in the tabernacle performed this specific holy act at the incense altar himself every morning and evening throughout the year.
The Daily Service of the High Priest at the Incense Altar
»While the high priest had the authority to perform any work in the first compartment that other priests could also carry out, there was a daily service in the first compartment of the sanctuary that no one except the high priest was permitted to perform. He alone was allowed to burn incense on the golden altar before the Lord and to set up and light the lamps on the golden candlestick. Every morning and evening, twice daily throughout the entire year, the high priest officiated in the first compartment of the sanctuary.«
Support by Ordinary Priests Due to the Scope of Work
»In the earthly sanctuary not only the high priest officiated, but also ordinary priests, because it was impossible for a single man to perform all the work; however, the work of all priests in the exemplary services was required to represent the work of our high priest. ... Throughout the year the “priests (plural, both the high and ordinary priests) always entered the first tent and performed the worship.”«
The Significance of the Daily Incense Service
»Within the first compartment the high priest offered incense on the golden altar and provided and lit the lamps. No one except the high priest was permitted to perform this holy work, which symbolized how the fragrant incense of Christ’s righteousness is added to the prayers of God’s people to make them acceptable before God.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
