The Scriptures indicate that Jesus Christ is not a created being, but the begotten Son of God, who proceeded from the nature of the Father. He existed already before the whole creation and is Himself the Creator of all things, therefore He cannot be counted among the created things. His origin lies so far back in the days of eternity that for the human mind it is practically without beginning.
Christ is Creator, not Creature
We should also not imagine that Christ is a creature because Paul calls Him “the firstborn of every creature”; for the following verses show that He is the Creator and not a creature. ... If He created everything that has ever been created, and existed before all created things, it is obvious that He Himself does not belong to the created things. He stands above the whole creation and is not a part of it.
Begotten, not created
Holy Scripture explains that Christ is the “begotten Son of God”. He is begotten, not created. When He was begotten is not for us to question, nor could our senses comprehend it even if it were told to us. ... There was a time when Christ proceeded and came from God ... but that time lies so far back in the days of eternity that it is practically without beginning for finite understanding.
One with the Eternal Father
Christ, the Word, the Begotten of God, was one with the Eternal Father – one in nature, in character, in purpose – the only being that could penetrate into all of God’s counsels and intentions. ... His “origins are from age, from eternity”.
The Origin before Time
Holy Scripture nowhere speaks of Christ as a created being, but on the contrary makes it clear that He was begotten by the Father. ... His existence as the one begotten by the Father precedes the entire work of creation, in respect to which He stands as a co‑Creator with God.
