Adventistische Schriften über: "Vulgar Language"
Answer
The Holy Scriptures and the Adventist writings condemn vulgar language, because a low and common manner of expression debases the spirit and clouds the holy sense for spiritual matters. Christians are called to choose their speech carefully and to consistently avoid corrupt communication that brushes on impure insinuations or blasphemy. Pure language is essential to be a proper example for fellow humans and children and to reflect the character of Christ.
Warning Against Low and Vulgar Speech
When reason is left to appetite, the lofty sense for holy things is no longer recognized, the spirit is humbled, and the inclinations are ungracious. The heart bears witness through the mouth and deeds to what is within it. God has been displeased and dishonored by your conversations and behavior. Your words were not chosen and considered; instead, in the presence of children and youth, a low, vulgar expression naturally slips from your lips.
Avoidance of Corrupt Communication
The apostle gives instructions for the use of speech. "Let no idle chatter go out of your mouth," he says, "but only what is good for edification." The word "idle" [or corrupt] here means any word that would have a negative impact on holy principles and pure religion... It includes impure insinuations which, if not immediately resisted, lead to great sin.
Rejection of Profane Phrases
God's Word also condemns the use of meaningless phrases and exclamations that border on blasphemy. It condemns deceptive compliments, evasion of truth, exaggerations, and false representations in commerce that are common in society and the business world.
Choosing Noble Words Instead of Cheap Expressions
The worker for God should earnestly strive to become a representative of Christ by discarding all unbecoming gestures and coarse language. He should be intent on using correct speech... Common, cheap expressions should be replaced by wholesome, pure words. Through constant vigilance and serious discipline, the Christian youth can keep his tongue from evil.
Danger of Degradation Through Loose Talk
From other rooms came highly unpleasant outbursts of low humor and idle chatter. ... Others were mocked, holy things were made the subject of jokes... The conversation was of a kind that humbles the spirit and corrupts morality.
