What does Ellen White write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "There are types and antitypes, that is, Abraham's sacrifice with Isaac as the type, Christ the antitype. My question: Could it be that the location of Mount Moriah was exactly the place where Christ was crucified?"
Answer
The Scriptures confirm that Mount Moriah was the place where Abraham was to sacrifice his son Isaac and where later Solomon's temple was built. There is a close typological connection between Isaac's sacrifice and Christ's sacrifice, as Abraham saw the provided ram as a substitute for the Redeemer.
Some historical Adventist sources consider it possible or even likely that the hill of the crucifixion is identical with Mount Moriah, although this cannot be strictly proven in every detail. While the Temple Mount (Moriah) is established as the site of Abraham's sacrifice and the temple, regarding Christ it is emphasized that He suffered "outside the gate."
The Identity of the Hill of the Crucifixion
»It is assumed that the hill of the crucifixion was also Mount Moriah, to which God sent Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, who also was a type of the Prince Messiah, in whom all the peoples of the earth are to be blessed. In the presented concepts there is a certain adequacy; although they are not completely provable for every spirit, there is nevertheless no inadequacy or inconsistency (as far as they are supported by Holy Scripture)...«
Mount Moriah as the Place of the Sacrifice and the Temple
»The place where the altar was erected, which from then on was to be regarded as holy ground, was the spot where Abraham had built the altar to sacrifice his son. Later it was chosen as the site for the temple.«
Isaac's Sacrifice as a Symbol for Christ
»On Mount Moriah Abraham heard his son's question: "Father... where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" The father answered: "My son, God will provide a lamb for the burnt offering Himself." And in the ram that was divinely provided in place of Isaac, Abraham saw a symbol for Him who was to die for the sins of humanity.«
Christ Suffered Outside the Gate
»...for even Christ suffered "outside the gate." Therefore we must follow Him to both holy places (each at its appropriate time), as He offers His sacrifice there.«

Why I built EGW Vision
Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.
EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.
My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
