Job was an blameless and upright man who found favor with God, but he became the subject of a fierce confrontation with Satan. Satan claimed that Job served God only because of His blessings, and so God allowed Job to lose all his possessions, his children, and eventually his health. Despite the false accusations of his friends, Job endured in faith, was personally rebuked by God, and was finally blessed with double what he had previously possessed.
\n\nThe Test and Steadfastness of Job
\n\n\n»Concerning Job, the patriarch of Uz, the testimony of the heart-witness read: “There is none like him on earth, a blameless and righteous man who fears God and shuns evil.”«
\n\n»After it was permitted, Satan swept away everything Job owned – small livestock and herds, servants and maidens, sons and daughters – and he “struck Job with malignant sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head.”«
\n\n»Another element of bitterness was added to his cup. His friends, who saw only retribution for sin in the disaster, pressed his tormented and burdened spirit with accusations of misconduct.«
\n\n»“If He has tested me,” said Job, “I will emerge like gold.” ... According to his faith, it happened. Through his patient endurance he vindicated his own character and thereby the character of Him whose representative he was.«
\n\n»The Lord answered Job from the storm and revealed to His servant the power of His might. When Job caught a glimpse of his Creator, he despised himself and repented in dust and ash. Then the Lord was able to bless him abundantly and make his final years the best of his life.«
\n\n»And “the Lord restored Job’s losses. ... Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before. ... The Lord blessed the later days of Job more than his beginning.”«
