Adventistische Schriften über: "The Second Coming of Christ Like a Thief"

Answer

The Second Coming of Christ comes only for the godless and unprepared like a thief in the night, because they live in spiritual darkness and trust in “peace and safety.” True believers, however, who study God’s Word and remain vigilant, will not be surprised, because they are children of the Light and recognize the signs of the times. While the world is struck by sudden ruin, the watchful are prepared by the prophetic Word, so that this day does not overwhelm them unexpectedly.

Distinction Between the Righteous and the Wicked

»“But for whom will He come like a thief in the night? For the godless, for those who speak of peace and safety; not for Christians who believe God’s Word and are kept watchful. ‘But you, brothers, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you like a thief.’ Who cannot see that a great distinction is made between the righteous and the wicked regarding the suddenness of that day’s coming.”«

Warning of Sudden Ruin

»“Paul speaks of a class for whom the appearing of the Lord will come unexpectedly. ‘The day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night. For if they say: It is peace and no danger, then ruin will swiftly overtake them… and they will not escape.’ But he adds for those who have heeded the Savior’s warning: ‘But you, dear brothers, are not in darkness, that the day should seize you like a thief. You all are children of the Light and children of the Day; we are not of night nor of darkness.’”«

The Surprise of the False Teachers

»“If you do not keep watch, I will come upon you like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.” The Second Coming of Christ will surprise the false teachers. They say, “Peace and safety.” Like the priests and teachers before the fall of Jerusalem, they expect the congregation to enjoy earthly prosperity and glory. But what does the inspired Word say? “Sudden ruin comes upon them.” Over all who dwell on the face of the whole earth, over all who make this world their home, the day of God will come like a snare. It comes to them like a creeping thief.«

The Call to Vigilance

»An important point that must constantly be kept in view is the warning voice of our Savior: “Therefore keep watch; for you do not know at what hour your Lord will come … but you should know this: He will come like a thief in the night, therefore let us be watchful and sober, so that this day does not come upon us unexpectedly.”«

Unbelief as the Cause of Surprise

»The suddenness of that day will be as it was when the Flood came; it will surprise the world because they will not believe God’s testimony. The old world was warned, but they did not know because they did not believe. The world is now warned, but will be surprised for the same reason.«

Why I built EGW Vision

Hello, I am Stephan Krol. I started this Ellen White website to make the writings of Ellen G. White and the Adventist pioneers easier to access for everyone.

EGW Vision helps you find topics, statements, and quotes faster, especially when many original sources are not yet fully available in your language. The tool searches semantically, groups relevant content by topic, and presents matching results as clearly as possible in your language.

My hope is that this tool supports personal Bible study, strengthens trust in the original sources, and helps more people discover the message of these writings with clarity, depth, and joy.
