What does EGW write about...
Adventistische Schriften über: "The prophet Elijah was provided for during his distress by the widow of Zarephath and by the ravens. Ellen White writes that the ravens were actually angels. Are there any other indications that Elijah was also provided for by Arabs or Bedouins... there are commentators who think that Elijah was also provided for during the foot journey to Mount Horeb. However, I cannot find this in the writings."
Answer
Ellen White confirms in her writings that Elijah was provided for at the Brook Cherith by an angel of heaven, who brought him food morning and evening. Also during his flight to Mount Horeb, when he lay exhausted under a broom shrub, he was not fed by humans, but twice strengthened by an angel with bread and water. In the available texts there are no indications that Elijah was provided for by Arabs or Bedouins; rather the divine help by angels and the miracle at the widow of Zarephath is emphasized.
Divine Provision by Angels
There He honored Elijah, sending him morning and evening food through an angel of heaven. Then, when the brook dried up, He sent him to the widow of Sarepta and performed a daily miracle to provide food for the widow’s family and Elijah.
When Elijah sleeps under the broom shrub, a gentle touch and a pleasant voice awaken him... An angel was sent with food from heaven to strengthen the faithful servant of God. His voice says to Elijah: “Rise and eat.” ... A second time the angel of God meets Elijah’s needs. He touches the weary, exhausted man and says in compassionate tenderness to him: “Rise and eat; for the way is too far for you.” Elijah was strengthened and continued his journey to Horeb.
After Elijah had eaten the refreshment prepared for him, he fell asleep again. A second time the angel came. He touched the exhausted man and said with compassionate tenderness: “Rise and eat; for the way is too far for you.” “And he rose and ate and drank”; and by the strength of this food he could “wander forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God,” where he found refuge in a cave.
God had sent an angel from heaven with food for His servant. “Rise and eat,” said the angel. “And he looked around, and behold, at his head there was a cake baked on coals and a jug of water.”
Angels are sent on missions of mercy to the children of God... to Elijah, when he in the desert was near death from fatigue and hunger.
